Alpha Performance VB

Karsyn Draime

How long have you been coaching volleyball, and what inspired you to get started?

I've been involved in volleyball nearly my whole life. Growing up watching my sister mainly inspired me to play myself, which led me to playing on various travel teams, competing at the varsity level in high school, and continuing for three years at the community college level. My passion for the game naturally led me to coaching, where I've worked with travel teams of players ages 10–13.

What do you enjoy or look forward to about coaching for Alpha?

What I am most looking forward to about coaching for Alpha is the opportunity to be part of a program that truly values both personal and athletic growth. I am thrilled to be able to help players develop not only their volleyball skills but also their confidence, discipline, and teamwork.

How do you approach developing athletes both on and off the court?

I believe in coaching the whole athlete—not just their physical skills, but their mindset, character, and leadership. On the court, I focus on building strong fundamentals, game IQ, and teamwork. I challenge athletes to push past their comfort zones while maintaining a positive and supportive environment. Off the court, I encourage accountability, communication, and goal-setting. I make an effort to get to know my players as individuals, because when they feel seen and valued, they perform better. My goal is to help them grow into confident, respectful, and resilient people, not just volleyball players.

What can athletes and their families expect when they join your team in terms of development and growth?

Athletes and their families can expect a supportive, competitive environment where growth is a priority—on and off the court. We focus on skill development, teamwork, and confidence, while also building strong character and work ethic.

What’s your favorite drill or coaching technique, and why do you love using it?

One of my favorite drills is the ‘scramble drill’—where players react to unpredictable plays and keep the ball alive. I love it because it builds hustle, communication, and quick decision-making under pressure. It also brings great energy to the gym and helped me become a better player & teammate myself.

What’s one piece of advice you’ve received as an athlete or coach that you still carry with you today?

A coach once told me, ‘Your energy sets the tone.’ That stuck with me. Whether I’m playing or coaching, I know the way I show up can inspire others and change the environment—for better or worse.
