How long have you been coaching volleyball, and what inspired you to get started?
I’ve been coaching for 20+ years at the college, high school, and club levels. I was inspired to coach after my mentor, Brenda Williams (AVCA HOF Inductee), invited me to join her staff as a student assistant back in 2001. I was hooked after that.
What do you enjoy or look forward to about coaching for Alpha?
Alpha is blessed with incredible coaches and athletes that make it a joy to come to the gym each week.
How do you approach developing athletes both on and off the court?
I want athletes to become complete volleyball players in all skills of the game. My goal is to create a competitive and engaging environment where those skills can be tested over and over.
What can athletes and their families expect when they join your team in terms of development and growth?
Athletes/players can expect a fiery coach who loves to compete and bring out the best in my players. Players will look and feel different by the end of the season, whether it’s preparing for college or the next school season.
What’s your favorite drill or coaching technique, and why do you love using it?
My favorite technique is taking any skill and breaking it down step by step from the simple to the complex. That allows athletes to refine their and truly grow in any skill. The final touch is testing those skills in competitive, game-like drills.
What’s one piece of advice you’ve received as an athlete or coach that you still carry with you today?
“Keep on keeping on” was a phrase often shared by my first volleyball coach. It means don’t ever give up and never stop fighting.
