How long have you been coaching volleyball, and what inspired you to get started?
Just under 30yrs. Always had a desire to be a positive influence on the lives of others. My HS coaches encouraged me to use my positivity and experience as a player to be a motivator to others who enjoyed the game. So I became a teacher and a coach. It has been a part of my life since.
What do you enjoy or look forward to about coaching for Alpha?
Creating new relationships and helping others grow in their skills and love for the game
How do you approach developing athletes both on and off the court?
Being genuine and straight forth in answering questions and meeting players where they are in their game
What can athletes and their families expect when they join your team in terms of development and growth?
A safe space for learning where athletes can ask questions, set goals and put them action.
What’s your favorite drill or coaching technique, and why do you love using it?
Favorite drill is free ball make it take it. It gives a game like pace and doesn’t allow players to focus on every mistake they make. Requires them to have a next ball mentality
What’s one piece of advice you’ve received as an athlete or coach that you still carry with you today?
Volleyball is a game and is a small portion of your life as an athlete or coach. It is not your identity just merely a part of your story.
